Sensational and Secure

Backed by the Austrian National Bank, the Vienna Philharmonic Gold coin provides investors with one of the world’s finest hard assets. Not only does this legal-tender, pure 24 karat gold bullion coin boast the largest diameter of any 1 ounce pure gold coin in the world, but its gorgeous design is inspired by Austria’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

History

The Gold Vienna Philharmonic was first offered on October 10, 1989. It was named for the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, which is the oldest continually performing orchestra in the world today. The orchestra continues to delight viewers of all ages on an annual basis, making it the perfect choice for the design of an Austrian bullion coin to represent the nation. The Austrian government chose the theme of music because they believed it to be a language that transcends the limitations of spoken words.

Design

The Gold Vienna Philharmonic portrays a classic design of the Musikverein with its array of instruments, including the cello, violin, harp, Viennese horn and bassoon. This musically inspired coin was designed by Thomas Pessendorfer. The obverse of the coin features the great pipe organ found in the Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna, the legal tender value of 1,000 euro/shilling, the date, one unze (ounce) gold, and the coin’s purity (999.9). The back of the coin features an arrangement of musical instruments as listed above, and the legend WIENER PHILHARMONIKER (Vienna Philharmonic).
